THIRD TIME RENEWALS

TO SAVE YOU TIME AND HEADACHES
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

We strongly suggest you call dps at 1-800-224-5744 for verification of your status. please do not call us as we cannot verify your status.

If you THINK you are a "third time renewal", please consider the following:

  1. You applied for and received your ORIGINAL license as a "NEW APPLICANT" (1st issued license = 1 license)
  2. After a minimum of 4 years or 2 years in some cases, within 6 months of the expiration date (your birthday) of your original license, you would have been notified by DPS that it was time to renew your license, so you attended a shortened class, re-qualified and applied to get your 1st RENEWAL license good for 5 years. (2nd issued license = 2 licenses) (1 original plus 1 renewal)
  3. After 5 years and within 6 months of the expiration date (your birthday) of your 1ST RENEWAL license, you would have been notified by DPS that it was time to renew your license, so you again attended a shortened class, re-qualified and applied to get your 2nd RENEWAL license good for another 5 years. (3rd issued licenses = 3 licenses) (1 original plus 2 renewals)
  4. Now again, after 5 years and within 6 months of the expiration date (your birthday) of your 2ND RENEWED license, you would again have been notified by DPS that it was time to renew your license.
  5. OK, NOW, THIS WILL BE YOUR 3RD RENEWAL (4TH ISSUED LICENSE) AND THE PROCEDURE IS MUCH DIFFERENT FOR THE 3RD TIME RENEWAL. THE PROCESS DOES NOT REQUIRE THE LICENSEE TO ATTEND THE CLASS, REQUALIFY, GET NEW FINGERPRINTS OR PICTURES, GET NEW NOTARY PAGES, NOR AN INSTRUCTOR ISSUED TRAINING FORM. IN OTHER WORDS, ALL YOU NEED TO DO TO RENEW FOR THE 3RD TIME IS SEND THE DPS NOTIFICATION SENT TO YOU BY DPS, WITH CHANGES IF NECESSARY, ALONG WITH YOUR PROPER RENEWAL FEE (THEY TAKE PERSONAL CHECKS NOW), TO DPS WITHIN SIX MONTHS BEFORE THE EXPIRATION DATE OF YOUR 2ND RENEWAL.

If you recently renewed with dps online, you will receive a confirmation from dps. About midway down there will be a sentence preceded with an asterisk (*) in front of it. I don't understand why DPS has made this one sentence so confusing, but if this is your 3rd renewal (original plus 2 renewals and now this upcoming one is the 3rd renewal (about to be 4th issued license), you do not, do not, do not need a chl100 form.
